The driver of a car that went into the wrong lane and struck and killed a Salem businessman riding a motorcycle has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence.

The Marion County State's Attorney office filed the charge against 20-year-old Ryan Feezel of Route 1 Brownstown on Thursday after lab tests came back indicating Feezel had methamphetamine in his urine after the crash. 47-year-old Kevin Koenegstein of Odin died in the July 2nd crash on U.S. 51 on the north edge of Patoka. His cycle overturned and caught fire after impact.

Feezel at the time of the wreck told State Police he had fallen asleep when his southbound SUV went into the northbound lane and struck Koenegstein's cycle. Koenegstein was traveling with his wife, who was on another cycle, to visit relatives in Northern Illinois. Mary Koenegstein struck wreckage in the roadway and became disabled, but was not injured.

Feezel was treated at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia after his SUV overturned and landed on the driver's side following impact with the motorcycle.

Feezel was believed to be heading to work at the time of the crash. He was ticketed for improper lane usage, a ticket he paid earlier without contest at the Marion County Circuit Clerk's office.

The aggravated DUI charge is a Class 2 felony that carries up to a three- to seven-year prison sentence, although probation is an option. Anyone convicted of the charge and sentenced to probation must complete a minimum of 480 hours of community service work or 10 days' imprisonment.

Feezel has been issued a notice to appear on the charge in Marion County Court for September 19th at nine am.
