State Crop Report for Week Ending September 4

Corn harvest has started in the southern part of the state, while farmers in the northern part are reporting more incidences of sudden death in soybeans.

Statewide, the average temperature was 72.1 degrees, 0.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.59 inches, 0.13 inches below normal. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 4.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.

Corn dented increased to 83 percent, compared to 84 percent last year. Corn mature jumped to 22 percent, compared to 30 percent for the 5-year average. Corn harvest was at 1 percent, compared to 4 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 12 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 27 percent excellent.

Soybeans setting pods was at 97 percent, compared to 95 percent last year. Soybeans coloring was at 19 percent. Soybean dropping leaves was at 2 percent, compared to 9 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 24 percent excellent.
