A lack of demand was the reason behind the closing of the Effingham Planned Parenthood location.

Julie Lynn from Planned Parenthood Illinois said by e-mail Friday that the reason the Effingham health center was closed is because "there wasn't a demand for our services."

Lynn wrote, "The health center decreased hours to one day a week a couple years ago, but there still wasn't a demand. One day per week doesn't offer sufficient convenience, but there is not enough unmet need in Effingham for PPIL to offer more extended hours."

Lynn added, "Patients who have been to the Effingham health center within the last two years received a letter earlier in August letting know of the health center closure. Patients are being referred to the Planned Parenthood Champaign health center as well as other reproductive health organizations in Effingham."

The office closed earlier this week.
