Local Planned Parenthood Office Closes

The Effingham office of Planned Parenthood has closed.

The office, which has been located most recently along Virginia Avenue, has been the target of protests and prayer vigils for some time. The protests and prayer vigils have concerned Planned Parenthood's advice and assistance regarding reproductive services options, including abortions.

The Planned Parenthood website for this region now lists the Effingham office as closed, and phone calls to the number listed for the Effingham office also serves offices elsewhere in East Central Illinois.

We phoned the number Thursday morning and it was confirmed that the Effingham office has closed. We asked why and were told we would receive a response. So far, no response has been received.
