A Halloween trial date has been set for an Altamont man charged with a Class X felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon.

58-year-old John R. Laver is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman while armed with a knife. Laver also faces a Class 4 felony count of aggravated unlawful restraint. It's alleged that the woman's hands were being bound with duct tape during the assault.

In court Wednesday, Laver's trial date was set for October 31. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for October 13.

Laver's bond is set at $250,000.
