Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy has been appointed Chairman of the Illinois Fire Advisory Commission, effective immediately. The notification came Monday from the State Fire Marshal's Office. The appointment comes through the Governor's Office.

The Fire Advisory Commission advises the State Fire Marshal on fire protection, investigation and prevention, as well as other duties required by law. The Commission is made up of 18 members: nine appointed by the Governor who designates the Chair, three professional fulltime paid firefighters, one volunteer firefighter, one registered fire protection engineer, one representative of the fire insurance industry in Illinois, three people knowledgeable about fire protection methods, the Chicago Fire Commissioner, and the Executive Officer of each of the following agencies: Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, Illinois Fire Protection District Association, Illinois Fire Inspectors Association, Illinois Professional Firefighter Association, Illinois Firemen's Association, Associated Firefighters of Illinois, Illinois Society of Fire Service Instructors, and Fire Service Institute at the University of Illinois.

Chief Holomy has served on the Commission, first as president of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association in 2008-2009, and was then re-appointed by the Governor in March 2010. In February of this year, Chief Holomy was re-appointed for a four-year term ending in January 2019.
