The Effingham County Board took no action Friday regarding a proposed settlement with Altamont Ambulance Service.

The ambulance service is suing the County for seeking other ambulance services to handle non-emergency calls. Meanwhile, the County is saying the ambulance service is guilty of violating the terms of its contract with the County and is suing the ambulance service, which does business in Effingham as Effingham City-County Ambulance Service.

The parties were ordered to mediation by Judge Allen Lolie, and mediation was conducted by retired judge Patrick Hitpas on June 16. The County's attorney in the case, Chris Koester, said the attorneys for both parties have continued to work with each other and with Judge Lolie to determine whether a mutually agreeable resolution can be achieved.

The County Board meeting Friday morning was to gauge progress made between the attorneys with Judge Lolie. County Board Chairman Jim Niemann directed questions to Koester, but said they were briefed on happenings in the case up through Thursday evening, then elected to take no action at this time.
