A man has been airlifted to a St. Louis hospital after being injured in a single vehicle crash south of Altamont.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department said a pickup truck driven by 38-year-old Jason Fletcher of Farina was southbound on the Altamont Blacktop near 800th Avenue when the crash happened at 7:58pm Thursday. The truck ran off the Blacktop and rolled over three times, striking a fence, and then caught fire. A passerby, 39-year-old Matt Robinson of Edgewood, stopped and was able to pull Fletcher from the burning vehicle. Fletcher was airlifted from the scene and was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. A family member said Fletcher's injuries are not life threatening.

Fletcher was cited for improper lane usage.

Matt Robinson is a member of the Premier Broadcasting family, working as an announcer and sports broadcaster on 979XFM and KJ Country 102.3.

The roadway was reopened by 9:30pm.
