Man Dead; Run Over By Vehicle in Jasper County

A Newton man is dead. He was run over by a vehicle.

Illinois State Police report the incident occurred at 11:04pm Thursday on a Jasper County road one mile northwest of Newton.

Police say 28-year-old Sean Harrison Shamhart of Newton was lying in the middle of the roadway next to his bicycle. A car driven by 27-year-old Jennifer Fear of Newton ran over Shamhart. Shamhart was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where he was pronounced dead.

No citations were issued.

Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Coroner's Office are investigating the fatality.
