Area Contestants Claim Prizes at Illinois State Fair

There were several area first, second and third place finishers at the Illinois State Fair this week.

In the Textiles, Division 1 Construction Division, JoAnn Ullrich of Altamont captured third place in the baby quilt, hand quilted and also took a third in the knitted or crocheted pillow.

In the Open Hobby Antiques Division:

Kimberly Tarrant of Altamont captured two first place finishes. She took first in the berry set, bowl and two saucers and won the hot chocolate set, pot, two cups. Tarrant also had a second place finish in vinegar cruets, second in refrigerator magnets, water sets (pitcher and two tumblers), third in the clear pressed pattern glass and third in Majolica.

Kurt Becker of Altamont claimed first place in the carnival glass, clear pressed pattern glass, cut glass, water sets (pitcher and two tumblers), Illinois State Fair souvenir or ribbons before 1950, small World War I memorabilia and Illinois State Fair souvenirs or ribbons after 1950. He took second place in the bud vase, dairy jars, glass art and sugar and creamer set. He finished third in glass, pressed, colored, milk glass, small World War II memorabilia, tumblers pattern glass and open class photography.

Scott Beals of Mason was a second place finisher in the glass, pressed, colored, toothpick holders and tumblers pattern glass.

In Division III Junior Horse Show, Hunter Horse Division 2, Rachel Higgs of Dieterich finished second in the Hunter Showmanship -- Horses or Ponies. Higgs took third in the Western Horse Division, Western Pleasure Over 56".

Stacy Westjohn of Altamont took two firsts and four seconds in the Halter and Showmanship and Land of Lincoln Halter divisions. Westjohn nabbed first place finishes in the $100 AQHA Mare 4 Years and Over and Land of Lincoln Grand Champion AQHA Mare. Second place finishes came in the $100 AQHA Geldings 4 Years and Over, $100 AQHA Youth Aged Geldings, $200 Land of Lincoln AQHA Gelding Three Years and Over and $200 Land of Lincoln AQHA Mare Three Years and Over.
