Welcome to the first day of the 72nd Annual Effingham County Fair.

The fair will run through Saturday, August 6 at the fairgrounds at Altamont.

Tonight's evening attractions will include the Fair Talent Search at 5:30pm and the Junior Miss Pageant at 7:30pm.

17 young ladies are competing for the title of Junior Miss. The contestants are Madison Fear, Grace Bushur, America Patton, Ada Tappendorf, Ella Zumbahlen, Emma Hewing, Talia Coburn, Paige Wendling, Ciara Hankins, Kallianna Becker, Dalanie Bell, Katie Vahling, Claire Beckman, Kally Wesselman, Elizabeth Tappendorf, Lanie Teddrick, and Kendyl Schultz.

The girls are vying to see who will succeed 2015 Junior Miss Kaylynn Moeller.

This year's Talent Search contestants will be looking to follow in the footsteps of last year's Junior Division winner Madison Fear and last year's Senior Division champion Reagan Keck. Both of last year's division winners will be back to perform during tonight's contest.

Other Friday activities on this first day of the fair: Mid-America Jumper Inflatables from 5:30 to 10pm, and two acts on the free stage: Highway 15 Band with country and bluegrass music from 6:30 to 7:30pm, and Chris Talley Trio with bluegrass music from 8 to 9:30pm.

Judging got underway this morning with the 4-H dairy goat show. A reminder that we'll have live reports from Anna Wines on 4-H judging at this year's fair each weekday morning at 8:45am on KJ Country 102.3, Monday through Monday.
