Altamont city council members Monday approved several improvement projects.

The Council approved a resolution allocating $71,250 in Motor Fuel Tax funds. The money will help finance work on 2nd Street from Washington to Monroe along the Altamont Municipal Building. The work will mill off the old pavement that has such a crown on it that it's difficult for people to get out of their vehicles after parking along the roadway. A new surface will be applied and accessible crossings will be installed at the intersection. The City has $75,000 in grant funds that will pay for the work.

The Council approved a special use permit for work at 10 Whitler Lane, north off Division Street. The permit will allow Steve Flood to run a home occupation at the address. Flood plans to do auto detailing work.

Also approved was a variance for property at 1 South 4th Street, so the occupants can construct a wrap-around deck on the home.

The Council passed an appropriations ordinance for the new fiscal year, calling for $5,630,241 in appropriations. The total is lower than last year, since the City has completed the south waste water treatment plant that was part of the measure last year.

Council approval was given to hold a 5K run and walk on October 8 in memory of Amelia Sheppard, with proceeds to help purchase equipment for Altamont city parks, and Council members heard that the Cobblestone Hotel near I-70 opened for business last Friday.
