Status of Greenup Shooting Incident

The man charged in the Wednesday night shootings in Greenup is still in custody in Champaign County.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said 23-year-old Lamont A. Mimms of Mattoon was still being held in Champaign County Jail as of this morning. Mimms is charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, but state police say more charges against Mimms are expected. He is being held on $500,000 bond. 

Authorities located Mimms in Champaign the day after the shootings. 

The shootings resulted in the death of 22-year-old Eric Lavaly of Mattoon and the wounding of 21-year-old Kyle Covault of Indianapolis. Covault was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana following the incident, but Carle officials said this morning they have no one by that name as a patient today.

Police say there are no charges pending against Covault at this time.
