One person is dead, one person is recovering from being shot, and one person is in custody in connection with the shootings Wednesday night in Greenup.

Illinois State Police District 12 Investigator Ryan Schumacher said Friday afternoon that 23-year-old Lamont A. Mimms of Mattoon is being held in Champaign County Jail on a felony count of possession of a weapon by a felon. Schumacher said more charges against Mimms are expected. Mimms' bond was set Friday at $500,000. He said authorities located Mimms in Champaign on Thursday afternoon.

Illinois State Police along with Greenup and Cumberland County authorities were called to a residence on the west side of Greenup at 9:45pm Wednesday about the shooting incident. 22-year-old Eric Lavaly of Mattoon was fatally wounded in the altercation. Lavaly died at 10:36pm Wednesday in the emergency room at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.

Schumacher said another person at the house was injured due to a gunshot wound. He is 21-year-old Kyle Covault of Indianapolis. Covault was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment. Schumacher said there are no charges pending against Covault at this time.

Schumacher also confirmed that the three individuals...Lavaly, Mimms and Covault...are the only three individuals who were involved in the altercation.

As to who shot whom, Schumacher declined to comment at this time, although he noted the charge pending against Mimms. He also said that none of the three individuals lived in the house in Greenup where the incident took place.
