A series of storms that visited the area delivered heavy rainfall, strong winds and big lightning.

After a couple of showers Wednesday afternoon, the storm that visited just before 5pm knocked down trees and limbs and caused power outages, including service to our 979XFM transmitter site. We were back on the air by 7pm.

AmerenIllinois is still reporting outages in the Charleston area and in Fayette County, but there are still scattered outages in Effingham this morning.

There were many reports of trees or large limbs across roadways including US 40 east of Altamont and in the bottoms near the bridge on the Teutopolis-Elliottstown Road.

After a respite, the storms returned with a vengeance overnight, particularly around 3am with some of the brightest lightning seen here in a while and loud claps of thunder.

We reported nine-tenths of an inch of rainfall here at the studios at Fayette and Willow.
