The Effingham County 911 Board Tuesday approved committee assignments in light of recent changes on the Board.

Altamont police officer Cody Hartke, local air ambulance official Larry Thies and retired schoolteacher Wayne Rubach were on hand for the committee after being recently appointed to the Board.

Here's the committee breakdown:

Equipment/PSAP--Sheriff Dave Mahon, Hartke and Police Chief Mike Schutzbach

Human Resources--County Board Member Mike DePoister, 911 Board Chair Nick Althoff and Farm Bureau Manager Julie Stephens

Addressing--Rubach, Thies and Shumway Fire Battalion Commander Johnathan Paholke

Finance--Schutzbach, DePoister and Althoff

Public Education--Rubach, Hartke and Stephens

Emergency Services--Paholke, Mahon and Thies

In other business, Althoff encouraged an update of the 911 constitution and by-laws. He said they haven't been updated since 2001.

There was also discussion of the changeover to a statewide 911 system and progress made toward that goal. System Administrator Jodi Moomaw said grant funding that could help with implementation of the statewide system is being directed toward the counties where changes are needed. She said the State's first priority is unserved counties, with those consolidating to help those unserved counties coming next. Moomaw said existing operations like that in Effingham County are low on the list at this point.
