Mattoon Man Charged With Assault

A Mattoon man on parole for murder was arrested in Mattoon on a warrant charging assault.

Forty-six-year-old Charles C. Drum was arrested in the Westwood Subdivision in Mattoon Friday by Mattoon police, the US Marshal's Service and Coles County Probation officers after a several weeks' search.

The warrant on which Drum was arrested charges that he battered a female in Mattoon. Drum was also charged with a violation of his parole. That charge alleges he was on parole from prison for murder at the time the new offense was allegedly committed.

Drum was being held in Coles County Jail at last report.
