Effingham's Avery Braunecker participated Thursday in the women's 100 meter freestyle competition at the US Olympics Swimming and Diving Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

Avery had not qualified to actually compete in the 100, but wanted to participate to get rid of any jitters heading into the 50 meter freestyle competition on Saturday. She is qualified to compete in the 50 meter.

Avery's mom and coach Elizabeth Braunecker tweeted today that Avery "did OK" Thursday, saying "there was a little bit of suit stress prior to her swim. With all factors, good swim".

The 50 meter freestyle semifinals are set for Saturday, with the finals on Sunday. Check for the qualifying in the 50 meter freestyle Saturday at 4pm on NBCSN. That's Channel 265 on Mediacom, Channel 220 on DirecTV and Channel 159 on Dish. We will mention again that Avery is planning to do her best, but is taking part in the activities at this year's Olympic trials in preparation for the 2020 games, when she feels she'll have her best chance for success.
