An O'Fallon man was killed Tuesday morning in another fatal crash in Fayette County.

58-year-old David Foltz was driving a semi on I-70 eastbound, three miles east of St. Elmo when the rig ran off the right side of the roadway. The rig came back across both lanes and ran off into the median, where it overturned.

Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen said Foltz was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by St. Elmo, Altamont and Brownstown firefighters. Bowen pronounced Foltz dead at 6:59am.

Illinois State Police and the Fayette County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of Foltz's death. Altamont police and Fayette County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.

Bowen notes that since May 26, his office has investigated three fatal crashes on I-70 between the 69 and 79 milemarkers, roughly from seven miles west to three miles east of the St. Elmo interchange. In the period between 2am and noon Tuesday, there were three semi rollovers, one resulting in a death.
