The Effingham County Unit of the Salvation Army has set a goal of $25,000 for this year's bellringer campaign.
The campaign will run from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve. Last year's sites for bellringing were Wal Mart, Martin's IGA+, K-Mart and Rural King.
This year's bellringing dates are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, November 21, 23 and 24; Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1; Friday and Saturday, December 7-8; Friday and Saturday, December 14-15; Friday and Saturday, December 21-22; and Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24. Hours for ringing are between 10am and 6pm. Typically, people are sought for two-hour shifts, but one-hour shifts are an option.
If you'd like to help ring for Salvation Army, contact Chairman Drew Holloway or members John Schimmelpfenning, Bob Ward, David McConnell, Rosemary Percival, Greg Sapp, Stan Kirchhofer, Ron Walls, Alan Davis or Kyndy Schaefer.
Schaefer was welcomed Thursday as a new Salvation Army board member.
In 2012, Effingham County Salvation Army has provided more than $28,000 in assistance to those with emergency needs. That includes $14,000 for utilities, $6,500 for food, $1,400 for health needs, $1,900 for lodging and $800 in rent.
In all, 667 families were assisted, translating to 2,746 people helped by contributions to the Effingham County Unit of the Salvation Army.
