A local man has been taken for treatment after the backhoe he was operating flipped over this morning.

Mark Roedl was clearing brush on a hillside off East Rickelman Avenue near Dogs By Design shortly after 10am when the incident occurred. When the backhoe flipped over, Roedl was trapped inside.

Chad Mette of the Teutopolis Fire Department said Roedl was able to use his cellphone to contact authorities for help. Once Roedl was removed from the cab of the backhoe he was airlifted for treatment of injuries received in the incident.

Mette said Effingham County Sheriff's Department, Effingham City-County Ambulance Service and Air Evac assisted at the scene. Emergency crews were on scene for about 30 minutes.
