(A REPLICA OF THE MEMORIAL ON THE LAWN OF THE OLD COURTHOUSE DOWNTOWN REMEMBERING THE FALLEN TROOPERS)

A ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning to officially dedicate signs now in place along I-57 in memory of two fallen state troopers from this area.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30am at the memorial on the lawn of the Courthouse Museum in downtown Effingham. The memorial was dedicated earlier in honor of fallen troopers Layton Davis and Frank Doris, as well as two troopers from District 12 who died in crashes earlier. Signs have been erected along the interstate north of Effingham in memory of Trooper Davis and south of the city to remember Trooper Doris.

Layton Davis was killed in the line of duty in 1976, while Frank Doris suffered the same fate in 1967.

Replicas of the signs are to be on display at Monday's ceremony.

Each of the four local state legislators will be represented at the ceremony, either in person if the legislative session permits or via a representative of their office.

The project has been pursued by Kathy Schroeder and other members of the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club.
