Five people were injured in a crash overnight east of Beecher City.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports the crash that involved one vehicle occurred at 11:51pm Thursday at the intersection of 325th Street and 2000th Avenue, south of the Holland community.

Deputies report a car driven by 24-year-old John McCormick of Shumway failed to negotiate a curve on 325th Street. The car left the roadway traveling west through a wooded area and came to rest on the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way.

McCormick was injured, as were his passengers, 20-year-old Brandon L. Niepert of Mulberry Grove, 19-year-old Jaime R. Osborne of Effingham, 20-year-old Brett A. Galloway of Altamont and 18-year-old Sierra P Hilton of Effingham.

All five occupants were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

McCormick was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
