(MIKE AND LAURIE YAGER ARE THE HOSTS OF THE MID AMERICA FUNFEST FOR AIR COOLED VOLKSWAGENS)

Tonight's the night for the big Downtown Party to welcome Volkswagen enthusiasts from around the world to Effingham.

The City of Effingham Tourism Office is hosting the party from 5 to 8pm. The VW owners are in town for Mid America Motorworks' 18th Annual Funfest for Air-Cooled Volkswagens. At the close of Mid America's Fun Run Road Tour, the VWs will head into downtown on Jefferson Avenue and will park around the Courthouse square. Tourism Director Jodi Thoele is expecting more than 300 Volkswagens downtown to participate in the welcome fest.

Activities will include food from Martin's IGA, Wildfire Wood-Fired Mobile Pizza, Aunt Kim's Kettle Corn and Tropical Sno, along with live musical entertainment from Tequila Mockingbyrd, various giveaways, an opportunity to win an iPad Mini 2 and a chance to see a variety of VWs. This year, organizers have added some featured artisans around the Courthouse Square. They will be selling items such as jewelry, handmade wooden crafts and furniture, vinyl records and more. There is fun planned for the kids, inclduing coloring books, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. This year, Mid America Motorworks will also present their Celebrity Choice Awards downtown.

In addition, Scrubby's Pub will be offering outdoor drinks and food from Lickin' My Chicken and Pullin' My Pork from 5-10pm. The band Flight Fifty will perform outside Scrubby's Pub from 8-10pm.
