Two crashes resulting in injuries were reported Friday in Effingham County.

One crash occurred just after 11am on US 45 in Heartville. Deputies report a SUV driven by 27-year-old Jody Hartke of Dieterich was traveling south when the front passenger tire blew out. The blown tire caused Hartke to lose control of the vehicle, which ran off the highway and struck a post holding five mailboxes.

Hartke was injured and was treated at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Hartke was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and for an expired registration.

The other crash occurred just after 2pm at the intersection of Illinois 33 and 2200th Street in Bishop Township. Deputies report a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Kenneth Bierman of Adams, Tennessee, was stopped to make a left turn off the highway onto 2200th Street when a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Taylor Hartke of Dieterich struck the Bierman vehicle from behind.

Hartke was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Hartke was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
