The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday granted variances for two projects in the City Business Park.

One variance was granted to ADM Animal Nutrition. Plant Manager Steven Allen said the firm needs the variance to construct a processing tower, including a bucket elevator that will extend 160 feet in height. That's above the normally allowed height of 75 feet in a light industrial district.

ADM is planning to construct the tower at the former Southeastern Container facility in the Business Park, which is being utilized by ADM.

The other variance will allow placement of a sign measuring 28 feet, 2-1/2 inches high at the former TSI Graphics building at 1300 South Raney Street, also in the Business Park. The sign will be higher than the normally allowed 20 feet high.
