The former bookkeeper for the Pinckneyville Rural Fire Protection District today was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for defrauding the district of over $444,000.

53-year-old Tammy L. Kellerman of Pinckneyville pled guilty in February to an information charging her with four counts of mail fraud.

Information supporting the charges allege that between 2004 and 2013, Kellerman stole funds from the fire district by sending unauthorized checks drawn on the fire district's bank account. Kellerman pleaded guilty to using the money to pay her personal credit card bills and other expenses and made false entries in the fire district's accounting software to conceal her theft from the board.

In addition to the 33-month prison term, Kellerman must make restitution totaling more than $441,000.
