Wheeler Man Injured in ATV Incident

A Wheeler man was injured in an ATV crash over the weekend.

The crash happened about 9pm Saturday in a rural part of Jasper County, south of Wheeler.

Illinois State Police report the ATV crashed in the area of Jasper County Road 250 East, just south of 850 North, but police did not know the exact location at the time the report was filed. The crash reportedly rendered the driver, 52-year-old Rodney A. Shamhart, unconscious. Shamhart was taken to the Dieterich Fire Department by his brother, who had been called to the scene.

Shamhart was airlifted from the fire station to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

The crash remains under investigation.
