A car collided with a semi on I-70 just west of Montrose Saturday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 1pm and involved a car driven by 87-year-old Mamie Whipple of Shobonier and a semi driven by 55-year-old Gerald Berwer of Perryville, Missouri.

Illinois State Police report the car was eastbound in the right lane and the semi was eastbound in the left lane. Whipple attempted to turn her car around in the authorized vehicles only turnaround in the center median. The car then turned onto the interstate into the path of the semi. The semi rear-ended the car, pushing the car off into a ditch. The car ran off into the median and then the unit came back onto the roadway sliding sideways. The semi then overturned into a ditch.

Whipple, the driver of the car, was injured and was airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Urbana. The semi driver was not injured.

Whipple was cited for improper lane usage.
