Effingham City Council members Tuesday heard a request for funds from Rich Jorn and Tom Henderson, representing the Effingham Performance Center.

Jorn is general manager of the theatre, while Henderson is an officer with Arts Connection of Central Illinois, the not-for-profit group that operates the EPC.

The City is helping with the financing of the EPC, but typically considers annual requests for incidental expenses as they arise.

This year's request is for $35,000 for new point-of-sale equipment since some of the nine-year-old system is past its useful life, $15,000 to help pay for crack sealing in the main parking lot, $15,000 for television ads, and $5,000 for a curtain that will help with staging for multiple acts in a performance.

Typically, the funding comes from the City's hotel/motel tax revenue, although City Administrator Jim Arndt cautioned Tuesday that the City has spent more from the fund the past two years than it has taken in.

No decision on the funding request was reached last night.
