Effingham Teen Injured in Crash; Two Other Crashes Thursday

An Effingham teenager was injured in a crash Thursday evening.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports 18-year-old Lucas M. Probst was traveling on Illinois Route 37, just south of 1240th Street, when Probst reportedly fell asleep. His car ran off the highway, went into a ditch, and then struck a tree. The incident happened at 6pm.

Probst was injured, but refused treatment. He was cited for improper lane usage.

Two people were injured in a crash at 2:30pm Thursday on the Mason-Eberle Road.

Sheriff's deputies report the crash occurred just east of 600th Street in Mason Township. A car driven by 24-year-old Jared Sapp of Effingham went through a curve, ran off the road, and struck a ditch. The car then rolled two times.

Sapp was injured, as was his passenger, 17-year-old Shyanne McCarty of Altamont. Sapp and McCarty were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital.

Sapp was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and unsafe equipment.

An Effingham woman was injured in a crash three miles west of Newton on Illinois Route 33 during the noon hour Thursday.

State police report 54-year-old Julie Ann Sudkamp was traveling east when she fell asleep. Sudkamp's car drove into the path of a westbound car driven by 53-year-old Misty Dawn Johnson of Jasper, Indiana. The units collided head-on.

Sudkamp was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. She was cited for improper lane usage.
