Effingham County ducked major storm damage from a system that rumbled through between 4:30 and 5:30pm Wednesday, even generating a tornado warning for a time.

In addition to the tornado warning, a series of severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service. Winds of up to 80MPH and hail were seen in the storm along with heavy rainfall.

Effingham County also was placed under a flash flood warning once the storm system moved out.

There were reports of trees and power lines downed that caused the closure of Dutch Lane west of US 45 for a time, but the road was reopened about 5:30pm.
