Altamont school board members have ratified a contract with the Altamont Educational Support Personnel Association.

The three-year agreement covers last school year, the current school year, and next school year, and includes wage increases each year as well as insurance improvements. It's the first-ever contract with district support personnel.

Altamont board members heard from a parent regarding one-to-one computer training and corresponding software training, and congratulated Altamont graduate Meredith Dust who was recently inducted into the Greenville College Hall of Fame for Track and Cross Country. Board members learned that Altamont Community High School was named one of America's Top High Schools by US News and World Report for the fifth consecutive year, and agreed to extend the senior trip by one day next year, with a visit planned to Gettysburg.

The Altamont band abandoned its planned trip to Disney World in October 2017, in order to perform as the representative for the state in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington in May 2017. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner nominated the band for the honor. Board members were also reminded of Baccalaureate this Sunday night at 7:00 and high school commencement the following Saturday, May 21, at 7pm.

Altamont board members hired Jay Koester as an Industrial Technology teacher for the coming school year, and approved athletic cooperative agreements with Beecher City for soccer and St. Elmo for golf. The Board also set fees for next year, including reducing the milk fee back to 50 cents.
