Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) has announced the addition of HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville – formerly known as Greenville Regional Hospital (GRH) – to its health care family.

HSHS, based in Springfield, Illinois, is comprised of 14 hospitals – eight in Illinois and six in Wisconsin. HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, and now HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, make up the HSHS Southern Illinois Division. The hospitals work in partnership with HSHS Medical Group and Prairie Cardiovascular across downstate Illinois.

“By joining Hospital Sisters Health System, we are creating the foundation upon which we will continue our mission of providing high quality health care close to home, well into the future,” said Brian Nall, Chief Operating Officer, HSHS Holy Family Hospital. “We are all truly excited about what this means for our organization and more importantly, what this means for the patients and families we will continue to serve for years to come.”

“We are honored that the residents of Greenville have invited us to provide health care services in their community. The Hospital Sisters of St. Francis have a long history of answering the call to serve. Bringing our health care ministry to Greenville and having the local hospital join our family continues that tradition,” said Mary Starmann-Harrison, President and CEO, HSHS.

In March 2015, GRH and HSHS signed a letter of intent to begin the process of affiliation to continue and enhance the delivery of high quality, convenient health care services to residents of Bond and surrounding counties. Now, as an Affiliate of HSHS and its Southern Illinois Division, HSHS Holy Family Hospital adopts the HSHS mission “to reveal and embody Christ’s healing love for all people through our high-quality Franciscan health care ministry.”

“With all the changes in health care over the past few years, it’s reassuring to have a strong system with a 140-year history of caring for Illinois residents extend their care in our community,” said Jeff Mollet, chairman, HSHS Holy Family Board of Directors. “The high quality care that patients have been accustomed to for more than 50 years in the Greenville community remains.”

“We are honored to be entrusted with the valuable health care resource that has been built in the Greenville area over the past half century,” said James Dover, President and CEO, HSHS Southern Illinois Division. “By working closely together, we can continue to enhance the delivery of high quality health care in our communities.”

The name Holy Family represents Jesus, his earthly father Joseph and his mother Mary. The HSHS Holy Family Hospital name was chosen after receiving input from community members and also reflects the multiple faith background of the Greenville community.
