Local Man Charged w/Sexual Abuse

A local man has been arrested on a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

29-year-old Antonio Perez of Effingham was arrested Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Tuesday. 

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the charge stems from an incident alleged to have occurred in June of 2014, involving a girl under age 13. Kibler said prosecuting the case has been delayed while waiting on lab results. 

Perez is being held on $50,000 bond. He is next due in court on May 11.

The charge is a Class 2 felony, punishable by up to three to seven years in prison.
