St. Louis police are now saying that the first vehicle at the scene of an accident in which former Effingham Nicholas Barnes was killed did not strike Barnes.

The initial information on the crash was that the first vehicle struck Barnes, a pedestrian, and that he was then run over by a second vehicle. The first driver left the scene, while the second driver stopped and cooperated with authorities at the scene.

St. Louis police announced Tuesday evening that they located and interviewed the first driver. The statement reads "it was determined that Vehicle #1 did not actually strike the victim. It is believed that Vehicle #2 is the only vehicle struck the victim".

Since the first driver left the scene, an investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to St. Louis police.
