County Clerk Reminds Deadline to File Statements of Economic Interest is May 1

The deadline for filing Statements of Economic Interest is May 1, 2016.

Because May 1st is Sunday, Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel has extended the deadline to 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016. Those who are required to file have been notified of the deadlines and fines for late filing.

According to 5 ILCS 420/4A (Illinois Compiled Statutes):

• failure to file on or before May 1st shall result in a $15.00 late filing fee

• failure to file on or before May 15, 2016 shall result in a fine of $100.00 per day beginning May 16, 2016 to the date of filing, plus the $15 late filing fee

• failure to file on or before May 31, 2016 shall result in the forfeiture of office or position of employment for which you are filing in accordance with 5 ILCS 420/4A-107

As per statute, names of those not filed by May 31, 2016 will be forwarded to the Effingham County State’s Attorney for further action.
