A leaf vac is now operational at Lake Sara, leading Effingham Water Authority to reinstate a Sunday ban on leaf burning at the lake.

Trustees voted last year to institute the Sunday ban, then rescinded it after objections were raised. Since then, the leaf vac has been acquired, providing another option for disposing of leaves. Burning can still take place Monday through Saturday between 8am and 5pm.

Also this week, trustees heard from Brian Larson that workers are making progress on improvements at Larson's Landing, and expect to open mid-May, weather permitting. Also okayed was the award of a bid for gravel for road maintenance from low bidder Heuerman Brothers Trucking, and the replatting of Lots 1, 2 and 3 in Knolls Subdivision. The adjoining owners are purchasing Lot 2 to increase the size of their respective lots. The annual lease rental fee for Lot 2 will be divided between the two adjoining owners.

Trustees voted to reimburse Lake Sara Campgrounds $8,000 from rental fees received for improvements the owners made in 2015. The reimbursement is in accordance with a provision of their lease. They also heard that a ribbon cutting ceremony was scheduled Wednesday for the kayak launch site near the Summit Township Building, and learned that the geese egg addling project is underway for this year.
