The website Schools.com recently named Lake Land College one of the top 10 best community colleges in Illinois.

Schools.com looked at the state’s 48 institutions and analyzed seven categories of data released by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and other independent organizations. Schools.com reporter Justin Boyle wrote in his article published on March 22, “We looked at total attendance cost, student-faculty ratio, distance education focus and transfer rate to four-year institutions, among other factors, and we came up with a pretty clear who's-who of top Illinois community colleges.”

Noting Lake Land College’s commitment to affordability and sustainability, Schools.com ranked Lake Land College sixth in the state.

Lake Land College President Josh Bullock said this honor is a reflection of the hard work of everyone at the college, from the board of trustees to faculty and staff.

“The Lake Land College community is made up of exceptional individuals who demonstrate their commitment to putting students first every day. We are fortunate to serve a wonderful group of students who are working to change their lives through the power of a Lake Land College education,” Bullock said.

The college continues to offer new opportunities to assist students in reaching their educational goals. This fall, the college kicks off a new Business Administration cohort program at the Kluthe Center for Higher Education and Technology in Effingham, as well as a new bachelor degree in nursing completion program with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

The college will also introduce a new three-tiered Honors Experience that is designed for students who receive a Presidential Scholarship, enroll in honors courses and join Phi Theta Kappa, the honorary society for community colleges.

Faculty and academic counselors are currently assisting students through the advisement and registration process for summer and fall classes.

For those interested in earning credits in the early summer, Intersession begins May 16 and concludes June 1. This option allows students to complete a class in a condensed format. Several of these courses are offered online or on campus in a variety of topics.

The summer term begins June 6 and runs through August 3 and provides students with several Internet or day class options, as does fall semester, which begins August 22.

Students are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as hundreds of dual credit students are completing the registration process this week and next.

“As the number one choice among area high school students, we know Lake Land College is a tremendous value with our tuition and fees at about one-fourth of the cost of the average state university,” Bullock said. “Students who invest in a Lake Land College degree can expect to see a 20 percent return on their investment upon graduation, according to a recent study commissioned by the Illinois Community College Board.”
