13 people applied for the vacancy on the Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education.

The vacancy was created when former board member Laurie King Borrelli moved out of the district.

Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan said the Board will hold a special meeting later this month to review the applicant letters. Interviews with at least some of the candidates might be a part of the process.

Doan said the Board has until May 5 to decide on a successor. Whoever is selected would serve until the April 2017 school board election, and is eligible to seek election to a full term at that time.
