The Effingham Fire Department is crediting AmerenIllinois with a donation allowing the department to offer its annual smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector program this summer.

The program is designed to insure all city homes have working detectors. Most recently, a carbon monoxide detector alerted a family to high levels of CO (over 65 ppm) while they slept.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said, "Thanks to AmerenIllinois, we will be able to continue our mission to 'protect life and property' through our public education programs.'"

If you have questions about the programs, contact Firefighter Tasha Hoffman who serves as the fire department's Public Education Coordinator. Phone the department at 342-2555.
