The big news at this month's Jasper school board meeting was the hiring of Andy Johnson as the district's next superintendent, effective July 1.

There was other business at the meeting, though.

The Board accepted Kathy Johnson's resignation due to retirement as Ste. Marie Elementary Principal and as Curriculum and Grants Director as of the end of the 18-19 school year, the retirement of Jeanie Weddell as a teacher's aide at the end of this school year, and resignations of Alex Frohning as junior high head coach and Linda Tharp as junior high cross-country coach.

The Board hired Amy and Brad Harris as junior high head coach and assistant coach, and approved Melissa Stanley, Brock Tarr and Travis Tarr as junior high track volunteers. Also approved was Chris Pitcher, James Rush, Mark Goebel and Preston Street as volunteers with the Bass Fishing Club.

Jasper board also amended the school year calendar due to a snow day in February. The last day of school will now be Thursday, May 26 with a Teacher's Institute on May 27.

The Board also observed a moment of silence for school district bus driver and chaperone Vicki Rubsam, who died recently.
