Trucker Injured by Exploding Tire

A Florida trucker was injured by an exploding tire north of Effingham Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 1:30pm at the southbound Green Creek I-57 Rest Area. The trucker, 50-year-old Carlos Enrique Riveros Toro of Hialeah, Florida, was attempting to put air in a tire of his semi. The tire exploded, injuring Riveros Toro, who was first taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, and then was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana.
