The Neoga City Council has dismissed a police officer while an investigation of the officer continues.

Neoga council members voted to terminate John Dilger as a city employee at a special meeting held Wednesday night. The action came following a closed session of the Council. The Council had also held a special meeting on Monday night.

Neoga City Attorney Tracy Willenborg Friday said both special meetings were to discuss personnel, and that both sessions concerned the same person. Willenborg said the motion to terminate Dilger was due to "allegations of criminal misconduct and/or other actions, which a normally prudent employee would recognize as improper."

The action is related to an ongoing investigation by Illinois State Police. Cumberland County State's Attorney Jon Braden Friday morning said he hasn't received any information on the investigation or when it might be completed.

The decision by the Council leaves Neoga with two fulltime police officers, Chief Andy Schabbing and Officer James Fuller, as well as four part-time officers.
