Vandalia Woman Accused of Injuring Her Infant Son in Custody

The 23-year-old Vandalia woman sought on a Class X charge of aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13 with great bodily harm or permanent disability is in custody.

Aubree Hammer is accused of causing the permanent disability by holding her three and a half month old son head high and throwing him to a wooden floor causing brain damage. Bond is set at $1-million dollars.

Vandalia Police began investigating the incident on February 18th. The infant was first taken to the Fayette County Hospital and later transferred to a St. Louis hospital. Because of the seriousness of the injuries, Vandalia Police activated the Child Death Investigation Task Force.
