Fire destroyed a barn near Montrose Wednesday morning.

Teutopolis Fire Chief Tim McMahon said his department was called at 6:45am by a passerby on I-70 of the fire at the Rich Thoele farm. The farm is located along the north side of the interstate between County Roads 2000 and 2100. McMahon said the cause of the fire is not known. He said the barn is a total loss, as are the tractors, wagons, skid steer and straw stored inside. No one was injured in the incident. Damage was confined to the barn.

Montrose and Sigel firefighters took tankers to the scene and Effingham was also on scene, Shumway covered the T-Town station and the Altamont and St. Elmo fire chiefs also assisted at the scene.

Firefighters were on scene for about two hours.
