Power outages caused by downed lines are also causing travel problems.

The lines that were causing traffic to be routed off I-57 at Lake Land College have been removed, so the interstate is open again. Later, lines were down on US 45 at Neoga, as well as on both the interstate off-ramps at Neoga and on Four Mile Road heading east from Neoga to Illinois Route 121.

We also have reports that power is out in the City of Altamont and on the south end of Effingham.

Marcelline Love of AmerenIllinois said that 500 customers in the Effingham community are without service. Love said the outage is due to ice on lines and high winds that are causing the lines to snap.
