The Construction Trades Education Curriculum Board has announced the completion of the selection process for next year’s CTEC Class. The students selected represent a broad range of 2016/2017 seniors from nearly every school district in Effingham County.

The CTEC Selection Committee members conducted interviews with the applicants and were able to select 20 out of the 39 applicants for the program. The selection process was harder this year because of the quality of the applicants and the number of applicants.

Marty Stock of Homebuilder’s Plus & member of the CTEC Selection Committee shared about this year's selection process, “I can honestly say that we had a difficult time bringing the total student count for the 2017 CTEC class down to 20. The students were all very bright, well mannered, and eager. We didn’t interview even one student that, in my mind, wouldn’t be qualified and be an asset to the new class. This is a credit to the program already in place and to all the people involved, but also to the schools and their counselors for a job well done.”

The 2016/2017 CTEC Class was officially unveiled at the Home Builders Show on February 13 and includes the addition of students from Altamont High School & St. Anthony High School for the first time. In addition, next year’s class also includes two female students.

Next year’s CTEC students include:

Dieterich High School--Tom Flood, Matt Goedde and Adam Slifer

Teutopolis High School--John Deters, Alex Meinhart, Blake Mette, Noah Pals, Chris Ungrund, Alan Waldhoff and Austin Weber

St. Anthony High School--Peyton Fearday, Cole Hoene and Abbie Schmidt

Effingham High School--Devin Brown, Olivia Byers, Koby Lorton and Jacob O'Leary

Altamont High School--Brennan Hutson, Josh Ledbetter and Daniel Stephens

The CTEC Board wanted to thank everyone that has worked so hard over the last two years to make this program a reality, saying the CTEC Class could not be possible without funding and donations provided to the class by local area businesses, private individuals, and the City of Effingham.
