Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner Wednesday again encouraged Democrats in the General Assembly to compromise on some points of his "turnaround agenda" for the state, or give him the authority to make spending cuts to bring the state's books in line with available revenues. The governor has said repeatedly he will agree to funding increases if they are accompanied by appropriate cuts.

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton said he heard the governor indicate that the legislature didn't have to approve all of his agenda to get his cooperation, so hoped the offer could lead to progress toward hammering out a budget.
