Dieterich school board members Monday discussed a proposal from the Village of Dieterich regarding an extension of the life of the Dieterich Tax Increment Financing district, and possible revenue sharing with the school district.

Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson told the school board that the Village proposed sharing revenue from video gaming and the Verizon tower lease to assist the school district with decreasing revenues. Revenues have been steadily decreasing due to the lack of funding from the State.

The District has taken steps to decrease the budget, but Jackson said any further reductions could result in a decreased quality of education for Dieterich students. Therefore, steps are being taken to increase revenues to become less reliant upon the state.

The school board is expected to act on the agreement once an agreement is formalized.

The Board also gave formal approval to begin work on a budget for the coming fiscal year, approved two intergovernmental agreements with the Regional Office of Education for alternative education programs, and approved the school year calendar for the coming year that will see students report for their first day on Thursday, August 18 with the final day on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Dieterich board members rehired grade school principal Kathy Pattenaude and junior-senior high school principal Kevin Haarman for next year, and approved changes in staff for the After School Program including the resignation of Assistant Director Beth Parish and the reassignment of Denise Snow and Shanna Adkins as co-assistant directors. Also, the Board accepted a letter of retirement from elementary aide Maria Miller, and approved a retirement incentive award per the support personnel agreement. It was also agreed to purchase 25 additional sick days from the Teacher Retirement System on behalf of Ray Hinterscher, Jr., hire Mark Vahling as assistant high school softball coach; and approve Mallorie Vahling as volunteer assistant high school softball coach.

The Dieterich Board also selected February 29 as the date for the next in the ongoing district goalsetting process. The Board will review results from the recent public forum and take the next steps toward putting goals in place.
